The follow-up to the successful Magic with One Light course. You'll learn to build more demanding lighting set-ups from scratch, work with flash and high-speed sync, and draw out the figure in motion for breathtaking results.

What awaits you

You can already light a face and you've mastered the physics of one light. But as soon as you start shooting the whole figure in a space, the photos lose depth and punch. We'll show you how to light the whole figure and how to build and fine-tune complex set-ups – and above all why each light is in them.

Nela and Saša, professional dancers from the dance conservatory, will pose. We won't stop at static shots – we'll capture the graceful dynamics of dance movement and play with the depth of shadows, contrast and atmosphere. The course doesn't take place at Ateliér v továrně but in the huge, airy Studio LOFT in Hala 11 with ten-metre ceilings and beautifully textured backdrops.

Course topics

  1. Complex lighting set-upsstep by step from the basics: multiple lights, their roles and combinations.
  2. Flash and HSShigh-speed sync that freezes motion at exactly the right moment.
  3. Drawing with light and motionhow to draw out the elegance of ballet with light and work with proportions correctly.
  4. Space and compositionhow to use high ceilings and the depth of the studio to give your photos a new dimension.

Can I handle it?

This course isn't for complete beginners. It's for those who already master the basics of light – ideally having completed Magic with One Light – and want to move on to more demanding techniques. Tonda watches over your shoulder the whole time and gives feedback.

I highly recommend the Lighting the Figure, Space and Motion course. The whole shoot takes place in a studio with high ceilings, which is really important for lighting jumps and dance figures in motion. First you get to know the shooting technique, flash with high-speed sync, and then 2–3 stages with flashes are gradually built and the lighting and exposure are fine-tuned. The experienced and easy-going Tonda guides you through everything, so the fear of whether it will work out can be overcome together and turned into a unique shooting experience! It's great training – the young talented dancers gradually offer you different dance figures and of course you can improvise on request. We all gradually took turns and created our own scenes, which we creatively complemented with a fog machine to beautiful music. This course definitely moved me forward and confirmed me in further study. Great feedback throughout the shoot – the photos are worth it! Thanks, Tonda! 🙂

Another great experience with Tonda and the other participants. You find out it's no "joke", but thanks to Tonda and his team you quickly understand there's nothing left to do but shoot, shoot and shoot. And if it doesn't work on the first try, never mind – step by step, with Tonda behind you, you move up to the next levels of light and shadow.

It's been some time since I attended this course. The positive emotions are still vibrating. Tonda is a great person and an excellent teacher, everything worked perfectly, the girls were great – a pity it went by so fast. I can only recommend it.

Ateliér v továrně has grown close to my heart, especially for its relaxed atmosphere. I love attending the individual workshops, where I always learn something new for my photography. I was especially enchanted by the series led by Tonda Lavrenčík – magic with a reflector and lighting the figure and motion. This course literally thrilled me. Tonda introduced us to the most important aspects of the field in a completely clear way, and off we went to shoot. The amazing models always demonstrated the individual figures in advance. And we had lots of room and time for shooting.
